Organizing for Outreach

Building on the success of its neighborhood gathering, The Westside Ministry Task Force will be hosting a follow-up meeting on June 11th at 7pm in the Parish Hall.  Our purpose at that meeting will be to begin organizing an outreach ministry that will, we trust, reflect the hopes and dreams neighbors shared with us shared at the neighborhood gathering.

What we envision is a regularly scheduled “community center” type of gathering around a shared meal, with opportunities for people of all ages to participate in 3-4 different programs each gathering, including (but not limited to):

  • Children’s Bible story/prayer/discussion
  • Art Projects
  • Gardening
  • Cooking the shared meal
  • Music
  • Social Service Resources (e.g. health screening, legal aid)
  • Adult Prayer Circle/Bible Study
  • Educational Offerings (e.g. cooking or sewing classes, financial management workshops)
  • Entertainment (e.g. a poetry slam or a jazz set)

Although the shared meal would be a constant, the exact mix of other activities would vary. People would be able to come and go as they please, and though some activities would be focused more on one age group than another, intergenerational participation would be the overall goal.

Our plans are intentionally fluid, in order to allow the gathering to be shaped as much as possible by the participants themselves on an ongoing basis. In one or more of our program areas interests you, or if you have an idea for some program we haven’t mentioned, please come and share that interest/idea with us! Please also feel welcome to bring a friend along.
