Ivan Meštrović was a renowned Croatian architect and sculptor who became a professor at the University of Notre Dame in 1955. Notre Dame owns several Meštrović sculptures, including The Woman at the Well and Moses. Sometime in 1968, the then Notre Dame President, Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, donated the maquette of a Meštrović crucifix to the Church of the Holy Trinity. That crucifix now hangs in our St. Joseph chapel, and on April 19, 2015, we rededicated that crucifix in memory of Fr. Hesburgh.
